Chevrolet Aveo is a compact car popular in Ukraine, belonging to the B-class according to the European classification, produced since 2002 in hatchback and sedan bodies. The model attracts buyers with economy, reliability and ease of maintenance, so it is perfect for everyday trips, novice drivers and as a family car.
The car belongs to the so-called Korean Chevrolet family. The first generation of Chevrolet Aveo (factory index T200) was developed by GM Daewoo, a subsidiary of General Motors, to replace another very popular model in our country - Lanos, therefore it partly uses its platform. The Italians: Giorgetto Giugiaro and the ItalDesign company were involved in the development of the design, thanks to which the cars even from the first years of production still look modern.
Having average driving characteristics, the model had no equals in the class at the time of its appearance in terms of the number of options. Already in the basic configuration, you could buy a Chevrolet Aveo with alloy wheels, fog lights, ABS and power steering. In addition, the car was equipped with a radio with MP3, controlled by buttons on the steering wheel, keyless access, Isofix fastening for child seats, not to mention such "ordinary" things as central locking and an electric interior package.
The car was produced with gasoline engines with volumes from 1.2 to 1.6 liters and power from 72 to 105 hp. The most powerful versions with engines from one and a half liters were delivered to Ukraine. The gearboxes are 5-speed "mechanics" and 4-speed "automatic", and the automatic transmission had the function of holding the desired gear, which actually turned it into a mechanical one and simplified trips, allowing you to brake with the engine. Such an option at that time was mainly equipped with SUVs, not hatchbacks or mini-class sedans.
In 2005, the restyling model of 2005 with the index T250 was released, which is often considered the second generation of Aveo. The car was produced in many countries of the world under different names: Pontiac Wave, Daewoo Gentra, Chevrolet Nexia, in particular at our gas station from SKD kits as Vida gas station with more than 51% localization of local production. In Ukraine, the model was constructed in hatchback and sedan bodies, as well as a van, and it was the only version of a commercial car based on the Chevrolet Aveo, the price of which remained low.
The third generation, T300, was presented in 2010 at the Paris Motor Show, and its production began in 2012. The car has retained recognizable features that convey the continuity of generations, but received a completely new platform and body. The exterior has become more aggressive, the front optics are "four-eyed". This generation was developed not by Italians, but by General Motors' own divisions, which, according to them, drew inspiration for the "appearance" of cars in motorcycles.
Sale of Chevrolet Aveo cars, like many other GM models, was carried out in three configurations: LS, LT and LTZ, which differ in the number of additional equipment and options, but already have everything necessary in the base. This generation of Aveo for the first time received diesel engines with a volume of 1.3 liters with 73 and 94 hp, 190 and 210 Nm of torque, respectively, which were equipped only with European versions of the model. In addition, the car was available with gasoline engines with volumes from 1.2 to 1.8 liters with a capacity of 64–138 hp, including those equipped with turbines.
Chevrolet Aveo was sold all over the world, in particular in China and the USA. Other names are Chevrolet Sonic and Holden Barina. In 2016, the third generation underwent restyling: it lost the "motorcycle" headlights and taillights, instead it acquired LED optics and a 6-speed gearbox: both mechanical and automatic.
The fourth generation was presented in 2023 and went on sale in some Latin American countries (Mexico, Chile, etc.). In other regions, the car is not yet available.
